A wet room is a room too. We are selective about the floor and wall tiles that Adour the wet rooms, viz toilets, balconies of our homes. Aesthetics plays an important part in the choice of tile, colour, size, texture and more, while the laying of tiles on the floor especially its joints are left almost always to the skill and intent of the (Karigar) tile setter in this case.
Ideally, floor tiles in wet rooms should be placed with a gap of 4/6 mm between joints. This gap is achieved using spacers. The benefit of
providing tile gap are:
- It takes care of manufacturing errors in tile and bends especially on edges.
- It is easy to replace a tile W/o impacting the adjoining tile if the situation arises.
- It takes care of expansion and movement on the tile floor.
Gaps in the tiles leads to leakages from the bathroom or any wet area.
The joints in tiles should be filled with epoxy grout or silicon. Cement grouts are good as long as they are mixed with sand. Benefits of using grouts are:
- It adds to the appearance of the floor, regardless of colour, though tinting can add a dimension to the aesthetic appeal.
- It is easy to clean, and prevails dirt, debris and fungal growth in between and under tiles.
- It increases the overall life of the tiled floor especially if the floor is subject to heat and vibration.
